Friday

Registration (4:00-7:00)

We will hold registration from 4-7pm to accommodate different flight arrival times.

Chicago Konkani Youth Welcome  (7:00- 7:45)

Committee members will introduce themselves, give an overview of the weekend, and answer any questions.  We’re also planning a few ice breakers so you can get to know your fellow Konks!

Dinner and Ice Breakers   (8:00-10:00)

After a strenuous day of traveling to the Windy City from around the world, what better way to satisfy your appetite than to indulge in the world famous “Chicago Style” pizza at the legendary Original Gino’s East in downtown Chicago? On the outside, it seems like another Planet Hollywood style chain restaurant, but the inside is completely different. The walls may have more graffiti than a brick wall on the West Side (which is part of the ambience) but the aroma is pure fresh ripened tomatoes and oven roasted pizza. Gino’s has been recognized as the “Best Pizza in Chicago” by many national and local publications. We will have a variety of pizzas to cater to all preferences, including vegetarians. For more information, visit www.ginoseast.com. Following dinner, attendees are free to head back to the hotel, see the city on their own, or visit any of the major bars, clubs or lounges within walking distance of the restaurant.

Lucky Strike and Lincoln Park (10:30)

Spend the rest of the evening at an upscale bowling alley.  Don’t have the greatest bowling skills?  That’s ok- they have pool tables too!  Don’t like pool or bowling?  Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of activities to keep you happy and entertained!  Unwind, relax, and have a good time with your new friends.  Attendees are also invited to explore the Lincoln Park area.

Saturday

Service Event    (10:00 – 11:30)

For those early birds who want a good breakfast, we will be offering light pastries and fruit in the morning. We also have a volunteer event planned.  This is by no means mandatory, but will definitely be a fun way for Konkani Youth to give back to the community as a group!

Lunch/Ice Breakers   (12:15-2:15)

Two Chicago food items famous world-wide are the city’s pizza and hot dogs. Since you’ll have enjoyed the pizza on Friday, we’ll take you to Portillo’s Hot Dogs and Barnelli’s Pasta House for lunch.   Portillo’s has been a Chicago tradition since 1963, and showcases many artifacts from the 1920s, 30s and 40s when the notorious Al Capone ran the city. Vegetarians, don’t worry: you’ll have other options available including sandwiches and pasta. Everyone will be able to enjoy the meal and participate in some ice breaker events as well. For more information, please visit www.portillos.com.

Trolley Ride    (2:15-3:45)

Following the lunch, we will have a trolley tour that captures many of the city’s major landmarks and sights.  We also have a few events planned to make our Trolley ride even more exciting!

Konkani Olympics   (4:00 – 5:30)

Get ready for the first ever Konkani Olympics- this is going to be one competition you’ll never forget!

Boat Cruise and Dinner    (8:30-11:30)

Chicago is known by variety of nicknames but one of the most famous is “The City of Big Shoulders.” There are a plethora of explanations as to where this originated, but one possibility is the tall skyscrapers that create the famous Chicago skyline. What better way to view these architectural gems than from a private charter boat?  We have chartered The Gold Coast Lady, which will cruise first on the Chicago River and then onto Lake Michigan. A full course buffet offering items that will suit any taste will be available on the boat. An extensive selection of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages will also be available. While cruising along, we will have a wide selection of music on board as we dance the night away under the stars. To top it all off, we will have the best seat in the house to view the tantalizing 30 minute Navy Pier Fireworks and Laser Light Show. This will be one of the most memorable and picture perfect events you will ever experience!  This is our formal event of the weekend, so dress to impress!

Sunday

Breakfast and Final Thoughts    (10:00 –12:00)

We will be offering a wide range of breakfast items while we get your feedback on the Sammelan and future Konkani gatherings. This will be an opportune time to voice your opinion and discuss issues with fellow Konkanis. This is also your chance to get e-mail addresses and phone numbers of all the new friends you made at this convention!  See you in Canada at the Konkani Sammelan 2006!
